Obstacles to Overcome as a Writer

Each writer comes across some self-doubt along the way. Experienced or amateur, below is a list of obstacles that writers must overcome in order to create. Any of these ring a bell?

  • Doubt
  • Procrastination
  • Stress
  • Perfectionism
  • Laziness
  • Anger
  • Jealousy

The only way to overcome is to face each of these obstacles head on. There is no short cut to get it done, but I can provide little tricks that will make it easier.

  • Utilize Every Minute. You need to take advantage of every spare moment you have to finish your book. There is never a right time to compose a novel. You will never have those extra minutes just looming around. You have to create during chaos. You have to make the time and effort in order for it happen.
  • Don’t Edit While You Write. Write when you feel inspired and don’t stop until you feel like you have gotten it all out. Once you get your thoughts spinning in your head you need to stop what you’re doing and write them down, even if it’s chicken scratch notes. You can always go back and edit later.
  • Use Google for Spelling. Google is much more up to date than Word.

If you want to write  a book, you can. But the first step is getting the words out. Just the idea of it can be overwhelming and stressful—which is why many people who want to write a book don’t. If you are new to writing or need help getting started, the full version of my book will provide you with some insight on how to make this seemingly impossible task, possible!

Richter Publishing also has packages where we can write the book for you to make it even easier! Contact us for more info.

Make Your Book Launch F U N!

Make your event fun. The boring sit-at-a-table-and-autograph-the-book-people-were-waiting-in-line-to-buy-for-days are over. To get people out to your party, you need to have a fun event. This is especially true if you are a new author. Why should they come and see you?

lou-reed-book-signing-colette-2For the Dating Jungle not only did we have costumes, prizes and drinks, we also had a live jazz music. I decorated my area just like a jungle. Everything from a jungle background and vines hung all over the ceilings and tables, to blow-up monkeys to hang from the vines and palm trees on the walls. I even had a sex foot Jane and Tarzan photo op printed where people could take pictures of themselves.

Think outside of the box. Don’t be another boring book signing event. Do something crazy! The more over the top it is, the more people will have fun and remember it. Maybe bring a magician in to do card tricks or some kind of performer. For a children’s book get a balloon artist. Anything to get people to stay and hang out for a while.

On Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.The Richter Publishing 3rd Annual Author Award Ceremony & Book Gala will be hosted at Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant[4110 West Boy Scout Boulevard Tampa, FL 33607]. Bottomless wine and talented authors! Get your ticket today!

Keys to Blogging Your Book into Existence

If you’re a writer who has a concept for a book but isn’t quite ready to put pen to paper – or are more techy but aren’t sure how to where to start, “Blog Your Book into Existence,” is ready to answer your questions and guide you to success. Here’s an overview of the 5 keys to blogging your book, how to get started, keep up and ultimately turn your blog into a best selling book — blog

  1. Be persistent. In order to receive grand results you must keep adding content to your blog. Make sure you blast a post at least 3 – 4 times a week.
  2. Write short teasers. Don’t post all of your content on your blog. Put a few paragraphs on each subject then at the end post a link to pre-order your book. Once the reader is engaged in the information you are providing, capturing them at the moment is crucial to get sales for you book and/or services.
  3. SEO. Make sure to utilize key words to drive traffic to your blog.
  4. Pictures. Always use a photo and bane the image appropriately. I get traffic now from people googling: Bachelor Pad Logo, because I posted it on a blog and named the file right.
  5. Publicize. Hook up all your other social media so your posts are blasted out into the universe. Its difficult keeping up with all social media, but linking them with one click of a button saves you a ton of time.

“Blog Your Book into Existence” goes in depth with each key to set you and your blog up for success! Get your copy today here!

Putting Pen to Paper

Last week Tara Richter was interviewed on Daytime TV! Tara shares how you can write your first book in just 4 weeks by “creating in chaos.” You can get your copy of “Write a Book in 4 Weeks” with all tips and checklists to help you become a bestseller here!

5 Tips to Get Started Writing:

1)    Utilize spare time. Waiting in the airport or delayed flights, jot down ideas. On the airplane use iPhone or iPad & blue tooth keyboard to type out your thoughts on the notepad app. It’s easier than using your laptop because it takes up less space.

2)    Carry an idea pad. When creativity hits hone in on it & jot them down as soon as they come into mind. You never know when a new idea will pop in. Write it down ASAP, don’t forget them!

3)    Start a blog. With your new ideas start a blog & write in the blog 2-3 days a week. After a few months you’ll have enough info to flesh out a rough draft. It’s also a good way to get SEO and start promoting the book with short teasers and by pre-selling with PayPal buttons.

4)    Write the first hour of every day. Sit down every morning and write for at least one hour. If you get it done first thing in the morning you won’t let daily activities get in the way or procrastinate. And if you write 715 words a day for 28 days you have 20,020 words which is a 100 page 5×8 book. How you can write a book in 4 weeks!

5)    Read more. Read more to get your ideas flowing. Anytime I have a creative block I buy a book about overcoming blocks and read it. Or read something similar to the topic you’re writing about.

Write & Publish a Book Yourself Step #8: Kindle

Now that you have a paperback book, you can upload it on Kindle. If you’re not familiar with Kindle, it is a digital device that you can download multiple books and magazines to. You have to have an Amazon account in order to purchase books to download, however you do not need a Kindle device. They have an app on the iPhone and most smartphones and tablets to use.

Having your book on Amazon Kindle is just another way to distribute your book to as many people as possible. People are divided between which method they prefer to read their information.  I personally prefer to have a real book in my hand, to flip through it and be able to autograph it. Others prefer digital. It is convenient because you can hold hundreds of books in one small, compact gadget. Having your book in both formats is important.

In order to publish a book on Kindle you do need to have an Amazon account. If you already do, you can log in with those same credentials. If you don’t have an account you will need to sign up for one. In this chapter of  my book, How to Write and Publish a Book Yourself, I will walk you through how to do this as well as:

  • The KDP Select Program (to reach more readers and customers)
  • Book’s Copyright and Publishing Rights
  • Uploading Your Cover
  • Selecting a Digital Rights Management (DRM) (to inhibit unauthorized distribution of the Kindle book)
