Honoring All Veterans on November 11th

“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” – Elmer Davis

Every year on November 11th, the United States of America celebrates Veterans Day to honor all military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This special day is dedicated to showing appreciation and gratitude for the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of our nation’s veterans. The first official observance of Veterans Day was on November 11, 1919, which marked the first anniversary of the end of World War I. The holiday was originally known as Armistice Day and it was intended to commemorate the armistice agreement that ended the fighting between Germany and the Allied nations. In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill into law to officially change the name of Armistice Day to Veterans Day. This was done to honor and recognize all American veterans, not just those who served in World War I.

Veterans Day is a time to not only celebrate our veterans, but also to reflect on the sacrifices they have made for our freedom and way of life. It serves as a reminder to show gratitude and support for our veterans, both past and present. There are many ways you can show your appreciation for veterans on this special day. You can attend local Veterans Day events, volunteer at a VA hospital or nursing home, or simply thank a veteran for their service. Small gestures like these can make a big difference in the lives of those who have served. You can also buy their books that were written by veterans.

As we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th, let us remember and honor the brave men and women who have selflessly served our country. Together, we can make a positive impact in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and way of life. So this Veterans day, take a moment to thank a veteran and let them know how much their service means to you. Thank you to all the veterans who have served or are currently serving our country. We are forever grateful for your bravery and dedication. Happy Veterans Day!

Celebrating Labor Day with Books

Labor Day is a celebrated holiday in the US, Canada, and many other nations around the world. It honors the workers who have made significant contributions to the development and growth of the nation. Apart from the parades and barbecues, this holiday represents the resilience and hard work of the working-class population. To help you celebrate your hard work and achievements, what better way than to indulge in some good books? In this post, we will be discussing a hand-picked selection of books that not only represent the working-class but also showcase the evolving nature of people and resilience. How they are inspiring others with their works.

Mark T. Mahaffey, a living legend in Saint Petersburg, Florida, shares the story of his life-long journey as The Pathfinder. More than the name behind the iconic Mahaffey Theater, Mark Mahaffey is the patriarch of one of the largest, family-owned, real estate companies in Florida. Reflecting on the road that brought him to where he is today, he recognizes the defining moments that were the tailwinds to his success. Finding the right path is never easy, but with the support of his family, friends, and some key mentors along the way, Mark confidently navigated through some of life’s most challenging obstacles. The Pathfinder is a loving tribute to all those people who helped pave the way of the Mahaffey legacy and the friendships that have blossomed along the way. From growing up in Indiana and attending the University of Notre Dame, to serving in the Vietnam War as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant, to growing the Mahaffey Apartment Company, to exploring the world with his closest kin and kith, Mark Mahaffey hopes to inspire his readers to live life to the fullest.

It is normal for students to experience BIG feelings that are sometimes hard to manage at school. Riley’s story is designed to validate and inspire young students to be open and honest with their trusted adults about big feelings. This educational resource helps cultivate emotional intelligence, develop empathy, and enhance resiliency in our youngest scholars. Join Riley on her journey of self-discovery and her excitement to share what she has learned with the other pupils.

Legend has it that there is a quote that hangs in the halls of NASA that reads, “Aerodynamically a bumble bee’s body is not made to fly because the breadth of it’s wings is too small to keep it’s huge body in flight. The good thing is, the bee doesn’t know that and flies anyway.” This is the story of a little bumble bee who dreams of flying but from the start is told all the reasons why she can’t. Determined, she sets off on a journey that takes her from the beach, to the mountains, to the jungle and lots of places in between. Along the way she learns through friendship and perseverance to believe in herself and fly anyway.

Everyone is dealt a ‘deck of cards’ at birth. That deck can represent people’s personalities as much as disparate situations. Each card/person has a role to play in the game of life. Interdependence is key to our individual and collective survival, whether it’s finding one’s professional niche, handling difficult customers, or developing creative ideas to stop climate change. Everything and everybody affects each other. Building from the principle that we often exist in solitary ‘silos,’ Ullven provides 180 Silo Secrets which readers can immediately apply in their daily lives. She helps readers identify their “superpowers” and use those to impact their personal lives, professional lives, and local communities. Perhaps most importantly, she emphasizes that no one person can do it all, nor should anyone attempt to do so. We’re all part of a greater whole and the tools she’s provided, ranging from personality assessments to top ten lists of tips, aim to help people feel empowered, rather than overwhelmed.

An inspirational memoir of a man who escaped war torn Liberia to eventually find asylum in America. However, it was not an easy road to travel. As a child, it took Pitman and his family almost two months to walk on foot from their country into Sierra Leone. With nothing but the clothes on their backs, they had to hide from rebels who were on a rampage amputating and murdering anyone who they thought were connected to the government. In his debut book, Kennedy takes you along his journey of being a refugee from a 3rd world country to becoming a successful businessman in the states.

Books are an excellent way to celebrate Labor Day, honor the working class, and gain an understanding of the current socio-economic issues. Labor Day is a time for people to celebrate their hard work and dedication to their respective jobs. While some use the holiday as an opportunity to relax and unwind, others spend the day reflecting on how they can improve their work. Whether you are an employee, an employer, or a student, you can benefit from reading books.

Are Ebooks are the future of reading? In the digital age, it’s hard to imagine a world that doesn’t revolve around technology. With the rise of smartphones and tablets, we have seen a shift in the way we consume content. The world of books has also been transformed, with many people choosing to read on their electronic devices rather than turning the pages of a physical book.

One of the biggest advantages of ebooks is convenience. With an ebook, you can carry an entire library on your device, making it easy to take anywhere and read at any time. No more lugging around heavy books during your daily commute or when traveling. Ebooks also offer the convenience of instant purchasing, with no need to leave your home to buy the latest release.

Another significant advantage of ebooks is cost. They are often cheaper than physical books, and there are even free ebooks available, making reading accessible to anyone with an internet connection. With ebooks, there are also no shipping costs, making them a more budget-friendly option.

Ebooks offer customization options that physical books cannot match. You can adjust the font size, line spacing, and screen brightness to your personal preference, making it easier on the eyes and more comfortable to read for extended periods. Those with vision impairments can take advantage of text-to-speech, audio descriptions, and larger font sizes. Ebooks also offer additional features such as a built-in dictionary, taking the reading experience to a new level.

With the increasing concern for the environment, ebooks offer a more eco-friendly option. By eliminating the need for paper and production processes, ebooks help to reduce our carbon footprint.

Ebooks provide numerous benefits over physical books. From convenience and customization to cost, environmental factors, and accessibility, ebooks offer the modern reader an experience that physical books cannot match. While some die-hard book lovers may still prefer the feel and scent of a physical book, it’s hard to ignore the many advantages that ebooks offer. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see a continued shift towards electronic reading, making it possible for more people worldwide to partake in the joy of reading.

Riley & Her BIG Feelings at School: Empowering Children Through Stories

Riley and Her Big Feelings at School by Cassie L. D'Addeo

As parents and educators, we often teach children the ABCs of school subjects and encourage them to develop their physical skills through play and sports. However, one aspect of child development that is often overlooked is emotional literacy. Fostering social and emotional intelligence is a crucial factor in the healthy development of a child, and what better way to promote these skills than through storytelling? This is why children’s books about feelings are vital in helping kids understand and manage their emotions.

Reading books that explore themes such as empathy, self-awareness, and emotional regulation can help children learn about emotions in a non-threatening way, making them more sensitive to their emotions and better equipped to handle them. For example, children’s books about anxiety can help children understand what anxiety feels like, how it affects them, and what techniques they can use to manage and alleviate their symptoms. This, in turn, provides them with a deeper sense of self-acceptance, confidence, and an improved sense of control over their own emotions.

When children read stories that reflect their experiences, they feel heard and understood. Books about different emotions can help children feel validated and less alone in their struggles. They also learn to appreciate diversity and develop their capacity for empathy, as they identify with characters who have different backgrounds, experiences, or emotions. Furthermore, books that include positive representations of emotions also help to affirm children’s positive expression of emotions.

Books about emotions help teach kids that emotions are a normal part of life, and that everyone experiences them. By learning about the emotions of others, children become more compassionate and learn to empathise with those around them. When children have this kind of understanding, they are less likely to internalize negative emotions, they learn to recognize when they have a problem, and are more likely to ask for help when they need it. All of these factors can help build resilience, promote positive self-identity, and improve overall mental health in children.

Our new book, Riley & Her BIG Feelings at School by Cassie L. D’Addeo, helps children identify and manage their emotions.

Riley and Her Big Feelings at School by Cassie L. D'Addeo

Children’s books about feelings are an essential tool for fostering social and emotional intelligence in children. They promote emotional intelligence, help kids communicate better, build stronger relationships, and develop positive mental health. Moreover, they can help children learn to understand, manage, and navigate their emotions. It is crucial to incorporate these stories into your child’s development program or at home, to help lay a foundation of emotional intelligence that will improve their overall well-being and success in life.
